No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the All India Trinamool Congress released a purported sting video of Humayun Kabir, alleging a multi-crore deal and links with opposition leaders to influence the upcoming Assembly elections. The party demanded a probe by the Enforcement Directorate, claiming the video indicates a larger conspiracy to divert minority votes and impact the electoral outcome. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.
At a press conference, TMC leaders said the video shows Kabir allegedly claiming proximity to senior leaders and outlining a strategy to defeat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The footage purportedly suggests a plan involving a ₹1000 crore deal, with an advance payment, aimed at shifting minority votes. TMC leaders described the contents as evidence of a “deep-rooted conspiracy” and alleged that proxy players were being used to manipulate the mandate.
Kabir, who leads the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, strongly rejected the allegations, calling the video “AI-generated” and a deliberate attempt to malign him ahead of the elections. He challenged the TMC to provide concrete proof of the claims and threatened legal action, including defamation cases, against those making the allegations. He also accused the ruling party of attempting to mislead voters and politicise sensitive issues.
The controversy has drawn reactions from multiple political quarters. TMC leaders reiterated their demand for a central probe, while accusing Kabir of working in tandem with opposition forces. On the other hand, opposition voices dismissed the episode as politically motivated, calling it a distraction tactic ahead of the polls. The situation has further intensified the already heated political atmosphere in the state.
With elections approaching, the issue is expected to remain a key flashpoint, as competing narratives continue to emerge around the alleged video. Authorities are yet to establish the authenticity of the footage, even as demands for investigation and counter-allegations dominate the political discourse.
